Bequests

Supporting CFDR through your estate plans is a wonderful way to contribute to the advancement of applied nutrition and dietetic research. A charitable bequest (or gift of money left to the Foundation in your will) ensures a legacy of support for future dietetic and nutrition research. After your family and loved ones have been provided for, you might consider making a bequest to the Canadian Foundation for Dietetic Research. Speak to your lawyer or accountant for personalized support in this area.

Gifts of stocks and securities

In order to encourage more Canadians to donate to charity, the federal government exempts donations of publicly listed securities to charity from capital gains tax. Donating stocks or other securities has double the tax benefit: the donor receives a tax credit for the donation approximately equal to the highest marginal tax rate, and the donor doesn't pay capital gains made on the stock. Read about how one DC member made a difference to the Foundation with her donation of securities on page 5 of the Summer 2008 issue of CFDR's newsletter, Keeping In Touch (pdf).
