Janis Randall Simpson's current main role is as liaison to the Scientific Review Committee of the Canadian Foundation for Dietetic Research. Over the last five years, she has also filled some responsibilities of an Executive Director role on a volunteer, part-time basis.
Janis is Professor Emerita in the Department of Family Relations and Applied Nutrition at the University of Guelph. Janis has a BSc from the University of Toronto and a PhD from the University of Guelph.
Janis' research program has included working with young children and young adults. Her major research contribution has seen the development of the 17-item nutrition screening questionnaires (NutriSTEP® ) for parents of toddlers and preschoolers. These questionnaires are mandated for use by public health in Ontario and are also available on the Dietitians of Canada website as Nutri-eSTEP (www.nutritionscreen.ca).
Janis has an extensive history of reviewing grants for agencies such as the Canadian Foundation for Dietetic Research, the Canadian Institutes for Health Research, and the Danone Institute of Canada.
Janis brings to CFDR her many years of experience as Treasurer on the executive committees of both the Canadian Society for Nutritional Sciences and the Canadian Nutrition Society. Janis also chaired the 2005 conference for the Canadian Federation of Biological Sciences and co-chaired the 2011 conference for the Canadian Nutrition Society.
